Next Saturday, December 4, will see Glasgow's parkrun event in Pollok Park host it's 100th run, as well as celebrating it's 2nd anniversary. The free timed 5K run, held each Saturday morning, started in 2008 with just 44 runners, the first event of its kind in Scotland.
In 2009, the parkrun event in Glasgow celebrated its first birthday with 186 and now attracts almost 300 runners on a daily basis. The parkrun family in Scotland has grown recently, with the addition of a weekly meeting in Edinburgh and now Strathclyde Park. Plans are in place to start a fourth event in Scotland, in Callendar Park, Falkirk.
Runners of all ages and abilities are invited to join parkrun Glasgow to mark their anniversary and new parkrunners are particularly welcome to join in the celebrations. New runners are remedied that they need to register to take part, on the parkrun website.
