It's every runner's dream, standing proudly on the podium as you display your gold medal. Now that dream can become a reality (a virtual reality anyway) as Chilean games developer Alpest Soft has released International Running Star - the first 3D running videogame. The game puts players in the place of a professional athlete, allowing them to compete in multiple running events as they try to gain top spot on the podium.
Players can take part in marathons and half marathons, and customise their characters as they begin their virtual running career. There are 230 nationalities to choose from and three game modes - Career, Quick Race and Training. The game also features an optional Facebook connection, so players can link their runner to their profile and share medals with friends.
Whilst running has become one of the most popular sports worldwide, this is the first time it has been used as the basis of a full feature videogame. International Running Stars is currently available for Windows PC and Mac OS X.
