Sure it's a brilliant cardiovascular workout that gets the heart pumping and the oxygen flowing. The Scottish Running Guide Marcothon team is still on course to complete the 31 day endurance test with Rory McGinlay, Stevie Bell and Terry Brennan all having logged around 100 miles. Despite assorted colds and sniffles, and tightening calves and hamstrings the trio have ticked off 20 days and are now set for the home straight.

For most race organisers, Sunday is an event day. Each month the UK race calendar is packed with 10k races, half marathons, marathons and every other kind of endurance events. The overwhelming majority are held on a Sunday. Indeed during November 2011, of the 107 events on the Run Britain calendar, 84 of them were staged on a Sunday.

Rory McGinley's news posting of November 14 on the Marcothon caused quite a bit of discussion in the SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE office. Running every day in December - a minimum of 3 miles or 25 minutes whichever comes first. No day off on the 25th or on New Year's Eve, no day off even if the roads are ice-bound.

Nights are drawing in aren't they? It's an observation most of us have probably heard in recent weeks. It's rarely done with a smile either. People are saying that this is not a good thing - it's getting colder, it's getting darker. I can understand their position entirely, but as a runner I see it from a totally different vantage point.

Our Racespy at scottishrunning guide.com experiences their first ever half marathon in what turned out to be a perfect day for running at Fort William.
Around 115 competitors were lucky enough to experience a crisp, competitive day of running at Eddie's half marathon in Fort William on Sunday (November 6). In a race that saw a strong showing from Dumbarton AAC and unsurprisingly, organisers Lochaber AC, David Simpson of Corstophine dominated throughout, finishing in an impressive 1:11:59.
