The Highlander, "Escape the Redcoats" is truly a unique charity event set in the spectacular scenery in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The route consist of a 39 mile road cycle, followed by a stunning off road 6 mile run and finishing with a further 6 miles on road by bike. The event starts and finishes in the Highland Folk Museum, nestled within the Cairngorm National Park.
The event will suit all abilities, from serious competitors to novices who wish to set themselves a challenging but achievable goal. As you navigate around the course you will travel over ground historically used by Jacobites and Redcoats. Highlights include the Redcoats barracks at Ruthven, Cluny Castle, burnt down in 1745 and Creag Dhu, where Cluny McPherson hid from the English army.
We have worked hard to keep competitors families/spectators in mind throughout the day. The course is designed in a figure of 8, and so spectators will see the competitors, start, cycle past and finish, all without having to move location. Entry to the Highland Folk Museum is free, and visitors will be able to see Scotland through the ages and there will be an authentic re-enactment society giving demonstrations throughout the day. The on-site café will have refreshments available to purchase throughout the day.
All profit goes toewards the "When you Wish Upon A Star" charity helping seriously and terminally ill children.
