As we head for the winter chill and darkest nights, it’s only natural that many runners set their sights on warmer climates. The Vodafone Malta Marathon and Half Marathon (25 February 2018) is an ideal chance to put your winter blues firmly behind you.
With beautiful scenery and sunny warm temperatures, Malta is a popular holiday destination for lots people around the world. From the clear blue Mediterranean waters to medieval towers, wayside chapels and the oldest known human structures in the world, the Malta islands have rightly been described as an open-air museum just waiting to be explored.
The full marathon starts from outside the bastions of Malta’s old capital Mdina, heads through the main road of Rabat, then heads west before turning north in a loop incorporating the famous town of Mosta. After Mosta, it continues back onto the main road from Mdina to Valetta, through some of Malta’s urban areas.
The route passes by Floriana before reaching the waterside and following through Gzira to the finish on the scenic front of Sliema.
For those wanting to run the half marathon, you will be pleased to know the route follows most of the marathon route, except for the loop around and about Mosta.
All runners will receive a Malta Marathon t-shirt, official race magazine and most importantly a commemorative Malta Marathon medal to add to your collection.
It is no surprise that the Vodafone Malta Marathon grows in popularity every year. Enjoy an organised marathon event in this wonderful island.
The event is known for attracting a large number of tourists and in 2017, 2481 of the 3961 finishers hailed from outside of Malta.
