East Lothian’s twinning link with Pardubice in the Czech Republic has led to a number of runners from Scotland competing in the Pardubice Half Marathon in recent years. Returning the favour this year, six runners from Pardubice have been given places for the Scottish Half Marathon on Saturday 6 September.
Cllr. Tim Day, cabinet member for community wellbeing, said: “A number of runners from East Lothian have enjoyed taking part in the Pardubice Half Marathon in recent years and have also been given a tremendous welcome from their hosts in the Czech Republic. The Scottish Half Marathon has provided us with a perfect opportunity to repay this hospitality by inviting six runners to take part in the event which takes in some of the most scenic parts of East Lothian along the coast road.”
Neil Kilgour, Scottish Half Marathon race director, spoke about the race: “It’s not just the stunning scenery of the golf coast that’ll take your breath away. If you want to train hard and set a personal best for the half marathon distance then this is the race for you. We have developed a route that is predominantly downhill and consequently is seriously rapid given the right training.”
The race starts at Meadowmill Sports Centre, Prestonpans and follows part of Scotland’s Golf Coast route before finishing at Musselburgh racecourse. For more information, visit the event website.
