The annual Haddington Half Marathon, organised by Haddington Running Club, returns to East Lothian on 12 August. The half marathon started life in 1982 as a Scottish Veterans-only race and follows B class country roads to the south of Haddington.
Since becoming an open event, the race has hosted the East of Scotland Championship on a number of occasions. The scenic, undulating route features a sharp hill at 0.25 miles, a long hill at 3.5 miles, and a sharp hill at 7 miles and 9.5 miles. Although the course is described as undulating, it boasts one of the fastest times in the country, with long flat sections. The course record of 63 minutes and 31 seconds, set by Mike Carroll (Annan & District AC) in 1989, is evidence of this.
