Robert Gilroy extended his magnificent winning streak to 13 at the Monklands Half Marathon on Sunday (14 May). The Ronhill Cambuslang Harrier stormed home over six minutes ahead of his nearest rival James Stewart (Victoria Park).
The 41-year-old now becomes the West District Half Marathon champion with a time of 1:10:13 clinching victory at an event that he has made his own since 2005.
Stewart took second and Steven Prentice (North East Marathon Club) completed the podium. It was an event dominated by veteran runners, with the top three places all filled by over-40s.
Julie Beveridge (Calderglen Harriers) was the first female over the line, in 1:31:10. She was followed by Clydesdale’s Pamela McCrossan (1:32:32) and Angela Martin (1:38:54).
