Fancy running the highest marathon in the world? Everest Marathon returns to Nepal for its 14th year on 29 May 2017.
Starting at Everest Basecamp (5364m), the route is mostly downhill on rough tracks and trails, through the spectacular homeland of the Sherpa people to Namche Bazaar (3446m). Although mostly downhill, there are many rocky and exposed sections of trail, with snow and ice at the highest level.
The race field will include runners from more than 20 countries. Travel specialists, Sports Tours International is offering UK runners the chance to take part with a package that includes four nights in the capital Kathmandu and an 11-day trek to Everest Basecamp, with additional days for acclimatisation. Runners will be accompanied by expert local guides, and a full support crew including doctors.
