Following the news that, Gemma Gibbons, is starting the Scottish Half Marathon on Saturday 6 September, it’s been confirmed that her husband, and fellow judo star, Euan Burton will also be appearing at the start of the race. Euan is used to launching big events as he was chosen as Scotland’s flag bearer at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony this summer.
The 35-year-old went on to win gold in the 100kg category at the Games. He has since retired and is now focusing his attention on coaching..
The race will feature some well-known names in the running world with Nicola Duncan of Portobello Running Club leading the women’s field. Contenders for the men’s title include former 800m internationalist Andrew Brown from Edinburgh’s Woodford Green Club, 22-year-old Ross Christie, from Stirling University AC, and Bryan Mackie from Edinburgh AC.
The half marathon will start at Meadowmill Sports Centre and finish at Musselburgh Racecourse. The fast and flat course takes in the 'golf coast' of East Lothian, with highlights including the site of the Battle of Prestonpans, Musselburgh Links golf course, Musselburgh racecourse, Longniddry Bents, and John Muir Way.
