Back To The Future Of Running

For anyone interested in the fundamentals of natural running, Colin McPhail from Scotland’s only natural running centre, Footworks in Edinburgh, has made a video to introduce runners to training techniques which will help your body to obtain more elasticity. 'Back to the Future of Running' is said to be ‘taking a new look at an old idea’ and teaches you how to use your body as a spring.

Colin is also the organiser of the annual Scottish Barefoot Run & Conference, which took place last Saturday (6 September). The event saw participants run from Bruntsfield Links down to Holyrood Park, providing views of Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish Parliament and Holyrood Palace en route. The post-run conference featured speeches from Jan Gruenke of New York’s Balanced Runner, and Donnie Campbell from Get Active Running.

One participant, Greg Dimelow, said of the event: “I had a cracking day at the Scottish barefoot conference. Learnt loads and got lots to think about for the next few runs. Great to run and meet up with like minded people who question what we are being told. Nobody I met yesterday was blindly following any doctrine and finding their own path shod or barefoot. A huge thanks to everybody involved especially Footworks Colin McPhail and his crew for putting it all on.”
