Stoney Stomp Singing In The Rain

As is often the case with Scottish weather, the optimism caused by one day of unseasonable warmth is often compensated with a prolonged period of unforgivable rain. Not to be deterred by the inclement weather across Aberdeenshire on Saturday (October 1), runners taking part in the Stoney Stomp recorded some of the fastest times the event has witnessed.

An annual event held each year on the outskirts of Stonehaven, the Stoney Stomp incorporates both 5k and 7-mile cross-country races. Beginning at the Fetteresso Forest, participants were given some fabulous views as they made their way through the countryside.

Despite muddy underfoot conditions, Eve Sealy won the 5k race with a time of 25.21, more than a minute ahead of second-placed Chris Cook (26.39). In the undulating 7-mile course, Ronald Gauld prevailed with an impressive time just outside of 43 minutes. Behind Gauld was Alan Sealy, who finished in 44.16.
