Good Turn Out and False Start at East Kilbride

22 JUN2009

Despite the Men’s Health 10k being held in Glasgow, the East Kilbride Half Marathon and 10k road races were not adversely affected as over 1500 runners took to the dual carriageways, roundabouts and under paths of the Lanarkshire new town.

Both races started together, with the Half Marathon competitors running the route twice. Despite a dubious PA man and a bizarre false start, the races were well organised and well marshalled. Plenty of water was provided, in perfectly sized bottles, and most runners enjoyed the event.

Half Marathon

Teweldeberha Mengisteab of Shettleston Harriers won the Half Marathon in a time of 1:05:49, followed by Cambuslang pair Martin Williams (1:07:09) and Alan Macpherson (1:08:27). Ayr’s Toni McIntosh won the woman’s race in 1:19:28, followed by Kilbarchan’s Lee Ann Hamilton (1:21:20) and Hamilton’s Claire McArthur(1:27:02).
