Running On The Green

29 SEP2011

Russell Whittington

In consideration of the Indian summer that has momentarily overwhelmed the city, why not ditch the end of the working week lazy-lunch for something far more invigorating? Tomorrow afternoon (September 30) will see the first of a series of monthly runs in Glasgow with the beginning of the Atkins 3k on the Green. The race, which has been organised by Kilmarnock Harrier Alasdair Murray, begins at McLennan's Arch in the Saltmarket, Glasgow Green.

With the top male finishing time teetering just below the 10-minute mark and the fastest female finishing around 11-minutes, the Atkins 3K is a competitive race but all are welcome. Russell Whittington, of Bellahouston Road Runners, finished the previous series with a time of 9:50, while Claire Thompson of Victoria Park City of Glasgow, completed the course in 11:31.

The second of the three-part series has been organised for Friday, October 28, while the final run is scheduled for Friday, November 25. Each race is due to begin 12:30pm and is priced at £2.
