Sun Shines for Edinburgh Urbanathlon

27 SEP2011

Nearly 300 runners completed the Edinburgh Urbanathlon on Sunday (September 25). The sun shone on Arthur's Seat as the runners scrambled, crawled, jumped, and waded their way through 11 obstacles to raise funds for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland. Chloe Cox and Robert West were the top female and male finisher at 41:04 and 42:08 respectively. Top team were the Standard Lifers in the Corporate category with an average time of 43:15.

The run was truly international with two participants from Chicago, one from Canada and another from Northern Ireland all joining in. Many embraced the fancy dress theme with penguins, where's wally, superheroes, ninjas, pink ladies and the Tazmanian devil all turning up in great spirits. Rob Roy from Total Wipeout also completed the challenge in his trademark kilt.

Current estimates are that the £20,000 fundraising target is in sight and brings the total raised through the Scottish Urbanathlons since 2009 to well over £100,000.

Organiser Alison Bertram said: "We hugely appreciate all the efforts our runners and their supporters went to for what is now the fifth outing for Urbanathlon in Scotland. It was a bit windy in places but the runners all did themselves proud and brought a great atmosphere to Holyrood Park. Many thanks to everyone who took part, came and cheered and helped us marshal the 10k route'.

All funds raised will help support those affected by chest, heart and stroke illness in Scotland via research, advice, support services and community groups.
