Scotland Flies To The Moon

19 SEP2011

Lunar Trek Logo

For the month of September, Scotland has embarked on its very own space mission. Co-ordinated by The Inverclyde Globetrotters with the support of Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, the Lunar Trek challenges participants to convert each step or stride they take into a virtual journey to the moon.

Currently sitting at around 72, 000 miles, the Lunar Trek team are almost a third of the way to reaching the intended target of 238,857 miles. With each member recording with a pedometer the steps they take running, dancing, or simply walking to and from work, the distance is converted into miles.

The Inverclyde Globetrotters were formed in 2008 in Greenock to provide an exercise class for people with various heart conditions. Over the past three years, the Globetrotters have travelled over 50,000 miles, or 1.5millions steps, including a virtual walk through Route 66, a trip through all the capital cities in Europe, and a journey covering the length of the world.

In addition, Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland have recently submitted a motion to parliament to recognise the achievements of the Inverclyde Globetrotters in promoting a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise through fun and innovative challenges.
