Coasts Are Clear For Scottish Challenge

8 SEP2011

Coast to Coast

While many are still recovering from the exertions of the Great Scottish Run, adventure enthusiasts are preparing themselves for next week's Coast To Coast Challenge. Now in its second year, the race sees competitors run, cycle, and kayak from the northeast point of Nairn across the country to the Isle of Glencoe on Scotland's West Coast.

This point-to-point journey takes a total of two days, with entrants setting off on the morning of Saturday, September 16, and finishing on the Sunday evening. The total distance translates to just over 100-miles, with more than a 26.2 miles covered on foot.

The course begins with a 7-mile trek from Nairn, followed by a 48-mile cycle to Fort Augustus for an overnight stay. The next day competitors will take on a 33-cycle to Fort William, a 14 mile trail run, and finally a 1 mile water kayak as the athletes reach Loch Leven.

The race will allow competitors a weekend-long snapshot of some of Scotland's most iconic landscapes, with the route moving across the coast of the Moray Firth, through Loch Ness, Fort Augustus, Ben Nevis, and finishing amidst the stunning surroundings of Glencoe.

Having attracted more than 1000 entrants in its inaugural year, this event is sure to be a big hit with adventure enthusiasts and competitive athletes alike in 2011.

For more information, visit the Coast To Coast website. This Friday - September 9, is the last day you can make changes to your entries.
