Still Time For Tokyo

5 SEP2011

action from the Tokyo marathon

Entries have now closed for the 2012 Tokyo marathon. The event, the biggest marathon in Asia with 30,000 runners, takes place on Sunday, February 26. It will be an emotive occasion, a major fund raising event for those affected by this year's tsunami and earthquake. Toyko's big race only started in 2007 but already it has the highest number of entrants for any race in the world - a mind-boggling 300,000 tried to get a place on the start line next February. Only 10% will be successful!

However runners in the UK can still book a guaranteed place on the Sports Tours International trip, called the Tokyo Marathon Official Charity Tour. The Sports Tours International package includes accommodation and transfers and allows you the flexibility to arrange your own flights if you want to.

Highlights of a trip to Tokyo are the incredibly friendly and courteous welcome from the Japanese people making for a hassle-free trip and the chance to see a unique world city, a great base for trips to Mount Fuji and a ride on the Bullit train.

The marathon route itself is a sight-seeing dream; the race starts in front of the impressive Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and passes through numerous famous city spots, such as the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower and the world's largest fish market, to finish at Tokyo Big Sight Convention Centre.

For 2012, Sports Tours International is working with a new partner KNT and together they have lined up a brilliant trip based at the city's Keio Plaza Hotel. The Keio Plaza is ideally located in the heart of metropolitan Tokyo close to the main shopping area, and just five minutes from Shinjuku Entrance of the Metropolitan Expressway so great for getting around.

Entries for the Toyko marathon closed on August 31 but runners in the UK can still secure a place in the 2012 Tokyo marathon through Sports Tours International.
