Farah Set For Final

2 SEP2011

Mo Farah

Team GB's Mo Farah has launched his bid to win gold in the men's 5000m at the IAAF World Championships by comfortably qualifying from his heat in Daegu yesterday morning. The 28-year-old eased home in second behind Ethiopia's Imane Merga clocking 13:38.03 to ensure his berth in Sunday's final.

Farah won his first medal at global level when taking the silver in last Sunday's men's 10,000m final in the South Korean city, where he narrowly missed out on gold to Ethiopian Ibrahim Jeilan by a mere 0.26secs.

After the heat, Farah said: "My legs are alright - I've had great medical support and great team spirit and yes I'm quite looking forward to the final. I've got to go and rest now, get an ice bath and do every little bit I can to recover.

"I've been relaxing with my wife and daughter the last few days which is nice to switch off and forget about running." Farah is ranked no1 in the world over 5000m this year and carries the high hopes of British supporters into the final.

This Sunday will see the finale to this year's events, with Abel Kirui defending his World Championship marathon title and record of 2:06:14 set in Berlin two years ago. Kirui, 29, is part of a strong Kenyan team who are thought to be in pole position to win a fourth successive IAAF title.
