There has been a significant addition to the Scottish running calendar with confirmation of a new half-marathon to be held in Kirkintilloch. The Neil McCover race, which will take place on Sunday, October 9, hopes to attract over 1500 runners for a competitive event that has a total prize fund of £2000.

The event is a tribute to Neil McCover, Kirkintilloch Olympians chair and local athlete who was killed in a cycling accident in October 2010. Neil was a keen long distance runner, who competed in marathons, duathlons and triathlons (including international marathons and European Ironman). The race is being organised with support from East Dumbartonshire Council, Strathclyde Police, and Kirkintilloch Olympians.

The start and finish are at Woodhead Park in the centre of Kirkintilloch, adjacent to the Leisure Centre and local council administrative offices. The starts at 9am and is priced at £15 for SAL / UKA registered entrants and £17 otherwise. Sign up at Entry Central.
