Countdown To Gay 5K

12 AUG2011

Next week will see a new event on the Scottish running calendar with the launch of the Gay 5K in Glasgow. Media speculation has surrounded the new event following reports that Hollywood A lister, Brad Pitt had been invited to start the race or to take part. Pitt will be in the city for the filming of the upcoming World War Z.

The Gay 5K, which will take place on Friday, August 19, at Kelvingrove Park, has been organised by Gay Men's Health, a Scottish charity. The race is thought to be the first across the world that openly celebrates homosexuality, and aims to provide young people with positive role models in sport.

It is also hoped that the event will go some way to challenging not just homophobia in sport, but across Scotland. Organisers have stressed that the event, which is founded on the ethos of sexual diversity, is open to all runners who share the same principles of a free and open society.

If you are interested in taking part in this event, with the possibility of rubbing shoulder-to-shoulder with a Hollywood star, you can visit the event website. Online entries close on August 17, and are priced at £10.00.
