Blue Skies in Skye

Around 300 competitors ran in the Skye Half Marathon in sunny but windy conditions from the new Portree High School Community Facility on Saturday 13th June.

The 26th Isle of Skye event comprised of a 13.1m single loop road race, which was very undulating, followed by a steady climb from the 8-11 mile marks before dropping back into Portree for the finish. The race was led from the off by Graham Bee (Fife AC) who won in an impressive time of 1.15.48, in second place was Gordon Lennox (unatt) and Scott Kennedy (Bellahouston Road Runners) in third spot.

The women's race was won comfortably by Emma Birnie (Bellahouston RR) in 1.29.21, Gillian Carr (Corstophine) was second in 1.34.19 and Morag McCracken (Hunters Bog Trotters) third in 1.35.52.

Last home was Joanne Semple who came in 290th in a time of 3.16.04.
