Rat Race Approaching Glasgow

9 AUG2011

Rat Race runners in action

Less than two weeks until the Rat Race phenomenon reaches Scottish shores and Glasgow is bracing itself for its first ever event. The organisers of the Rat Race Urban adventure series have designed a special introductory event, which will take place on Sunday, August 21 at 2pm.

Beginning at the Glasgow Riverside Museum, participants embark on a 10k journey that is interspersed with adventure activities on, near, (or in!) the River Clyde. The route stretches into Glasgow city centre and winds its way back along the north bank, with a myriad of obstacles facing the contestants.

Potential challenges could see runners walk the plank at the Glenlee Tall Ship, ascend the Finnieston Crane, or enjoy a panoramic view of Glasgow's squinty bridge in the comfort of a kayak. While the course is certainly not for the faint-hearted, organisers have ensured that each activity is fully supervised.

The race has been promoted by celebrities such as Neive Jennings - former Miss Scotland and Miss UK - and ex-Olympian and Commonwealth winner Dean Macey. What's more, the race will receive extensive media coverage, with Channel 4 filming events as part of an adventure programme they will be transmitting later in the year.

If you feel like the Glasgow Riverside Rat Race taps in to your adventurous side, places are still available. You can register at the Rat Race website. Cost of entry is £35 and contestants must be over 16 years of age.
