Charm In The Cairngorms

1 AUG2011

The Charmer logo

Organisers of the 'Cairngorm Charmer' have announced places are still available for their relay duathlon on Saturday, October 8. Taking place at the Cairngorm Mountain beside Aviemore, the race consists of a 2-lap relay for teams of two, with each competitor completing a 12 mile lap.

The first 4 miles of the route requires runners to race downhill on the forest tracks alongside the Allt Mor burn. The next 4 make up the cycling section of the event, as contestants complete an off-road circuit of Loch Morlich. In the concluding stretch, runners are once again welcomed by the backdrop of the Cairngorm mountains as they complete the circuit.

As runners complete the first lap, they hand over to their team-mate to finish the relay, with the results based on the total time for the team. Each changeover will be co-ordinated by event marshals, ensuring a smooth transition through the three stages.

Race organisers plan to stagger the start of the race with regular 1-minute intervals to prevent crowding. With this in mind, each contestant also has the opportunity to appreciate both the atmosphere and surroundings of one of Scotland's most beautiful landscapes.

There are awards for a range of categories and everyone gets an event memento and goody bag. The Race HQ is based at Cairngorm Mountain Ski Centre where there are a variety of facilities and things to do.

All proceeds of the event go toward raising funds for Chest, Heart, & Stroke Scotland, supporting those affected by chest, heart, and stroke illness across Scotland. For contact details and registration for the event, visit the Cairngorm Charmer website
