Smallest Half Marathon?

In one of Scotland's smallest half marathons, 39 runners took part in the White Caterthun Half held in Brechin on Sunday, March 22. In sunshine but cold winds, the runners started at Brechin High School but were soon out into the rolling Angus countryside and heading for the foothills of the Glens. Half way through the course the route cut off road and climbed directly over the top of the White Caterthun following a series of narrow tracks, before rejoining the road and descending back down into the farmlands and finally back to the High School where runners were rewarded with a warm welcome, a finisher's medal and a £5 Sweatshop voucher.

The race was won by Roger Van Compel in 1.23.25, with the first woman being Karen McLeod in 1.40.30. The race raised over £1,000 for the organisers chosen charity (The Guide Dogs). Full results.

This 'new' race re-instated one of Scotland's finest races, the 11.5 mile White Catethun organised by Brechin Road Runners until the mid 1990s.
