New Date for 5K Finale

29 JUL2011

A new date has been announced for the finale of the jogscotland 5k challenge series 2011 - Wednesday September 14 when jogscotland has set the challenge for participants to walk, jog or run a 5k in Dundee's Camperdown Park. Taking place in the evening, the event is a perfect post school or work run which the whole family can get involved in.

An autumn challenge is a first for jogscotland, with the 5k events normally taking place during the month of June however a running event in early autumn is a good opportunity to get back on track after a summer holidays of over-indulgence. The jogscotland 5k challenges welcome everyone - work teams, groups of friends out for a good time and individuals looking for a personal best. The friendly atmosphere is born out of jogscotland's ethos of making physical activity fun and accessible.

Local girl Gail Murray took part last year with her colleagues from NHS Tayside and her daughter Kathryn won the junior fun run. "I would describe the jogscotland 5k challenge in Dundee as a fun family evening in the park" she said.

"The course was mostly off road and followed a lovely woodland trail around the park and golf course. It was very easy to forget that we were running in an urban park as the enclosed woodland made it feel like we were a million miles away from a city!"

What's more, this year's Healthy Working Lives Workplace Team Award has never been more hotly contested. Throughout the 5k series, workplaces from across the country have competed in teams of four or more to be named workplace champions at each event and win a top prize of Run 4 It vouchers.

A junior fun run will also take place before the main 5k event, where youngsters will be cheered on by giant jogscotland mascot Jog Scotty. And if that's not enough, there will be a bouncy castle for juniors to bounce every last ounce of energy out before bedtime!

All participants will receive a medal, t-shirt and goody bag and there will be spot prizes handed out to participants who catch the eye of the on course marshals. What's more local bands will provide entertainment over the course of the evening.

Entry is now open for the Dundee jogscotland 5k challenge on Wednesday, September 14, so grab your trainers and your friends, family and colleagues and enter online at the event website.
