Urbanathlon Scottish Double Header

30 JUN2011

action from the Urbanathlon

There is an Urbanathlon double header in Scotland this summer with two events at Linn Park in Glasgow and at Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh. The Glasgow event took place on June 12 and was a huge success with more than 260 runners tackling the beautiful yet challenging course set in the stunning grounds of National Trust for Scotland's landmark property, Holmwood House, Linn Park. The Edinburgh fun is still to come on Sunday, September 25.

The fastest male in Glasgow was Bruce Carse finishing in 30:33 with Geraldine Gore taking the title of fastest woman with a time of 34:49 secs. For the first time junior teams took part in the event including Sarah, Stuart and Matthew from the Cambuslang Harriers who were the fastest team in their category and the fastest team overall with an average time of 34:07.

In total an impressive £20,000 plus was raised - a great boost to Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland's work in the west of Scotland which includes vital medical research and provides a range of local services for people with chest, heart or stroke illness and their families.

Senior Fundraising Manager Alison Bertram said: "Thank you to all our marvellous competitors who ran, climbed, crawled and laughed their way round the 7km route and special thanks to Holmwood House, Friends of Linn Park and all our volunteers who helped cheer on our runners and co-ordinate our hilly route!

"Urbanathlon is a fun run with an obstacle twist, where participants run, slip, slide, dangle, crawl and laugh their way through a series of obstacles amongst some of the best terrain and scenery our cities have to offer."

If you missed out and would like to join in the fun at the Edinburgh Urbanathlon on Sunday, September 25, visit the event website for more information.
