Parkland Race Heaven

29 JUN2011

the group of runners who created the Southside Six

Local running enthusiasts in Glasgow have had a great response to a new autumn event in the city with 75 of the 200 available places already booked. The new 16 mile race will take place on the south side of the city with a route that takes in six great local parks. The event, the Southside Six, will be held for the first time on Sunday, October 30, 2011.

The Southside Six was trialled last year when six friends (pictured above) mapped a scenic route that started at Queen's Park, took in King's Park, Linn Park, Rouken Glen Park, Pollok Park and Bellahouston Park, before returning to Queen's Park. They then ran the course completing it in under three hours.

Following the run the participants were approached by other local runners who were to keen to take part in any subsequent event and they then decided to hold a race under UK Athletics Rules and as a scottishathletics permit event.

The route is approximately 16 miles and there will be checkpoints located along the way which participants must pass through in order to complete the event.

The race organisers want to provide an opportunity for people who enjoy running to get out into the city's green spaces and explore the natural environment during their training sessions. They have kept the entry fee to a very reasonable £8 (£6 for affiliated runners).
