One of the Hilliest and Hardest 10k Road Races in Scotland

14 JUN2009

Jethro Lennox

The Bearsden & Milngavie Highland Games 10K has one of the toughest, hilliest courses in the country. It should come as no surprise then, that Saturday's race was won by Jethro Lennox, a regular in the Scottish Hill Running Team and winner of last year's World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge.

The East Dunbartonshire race started at the home of West of Scotland Rugby Football Club and made its way along Auchinhowie Road to the 3k marker and the start of the testing six kilometre section with its hills, climbs and undulations on the back roads of Bardowie and Baldernock before ending with a downward stretch in the last kilometre entering Milngavie.

In a field of seventy-seven, Shettleston Harrier, Jethro Lennox won in a time of 33:29, followed by Chris Wilson of Ronhill Cambuslang in 33:52 and Chris's club mate Iain Reid in 34:13. The winner of the women's race was Marina McCallum of Clydesdale Harriers in a time of 43:37.

Springburn Harrier, Joe Chambers, who finished in 13th position told Scottish Running Guide that although the race wasn't as hot and humid as it had been in previous years, it was still hilly and hard!
