24 JUN2011

David Millar collected his prize for winning the Mens Health Forum Scotland (MHFS) 10K last night and looked forward to a good summer's training before his next big target - the half marathon at the Great Scottish Run in September. The Irvine AC vet expressed satisfaction with his performance at Sunday's Mens 10K and his general from. David told scottishrunningguide. com: "I'm 41 and probably training more effectively now than I did previously. I still like to do the majority of my training at a fast tempo, it means that race pace isn't that much quicker than some of my sessions.

"I also like to work off-road and that has protected my legs. I've still got a big appetite for training although I don't do as many races as I use to. Still it's great to take part in an event like the Mens 10K and be able to record an event PB and to pick up a prize."

Another man collecting a prize was Thomas McDonald who finished third on Sunday. His time of 33:36 was a surprise to the unassuming 18 year old and was a big PB. Thomas is in action tonight when he looks for another good time at the Brian Goodwin Memorial 10K, an event organised by Thomas's own club, Bellahouston Harriers.

Katie Alexander of race sponsor Achilles Heel presented the prizes to David, Thomas and second-placed Robert Gilroy and commented: "The Mens 10K has quickly established itself as one of the major events in the Scottish running calendar. There is a unique atmosphere and the race grows in popularity each year. It is a privilege to be associated with the event. Congratulations to David, Robert and Thomas who produced such great performances on Sunday."

Race organiser Sarah McMillan expressed her delight at how the 2011 renewal of the Mens 10K had gone: "We had a big increase in entries this year and the response we've had from runners post-race has been very positive."

One runner Stephen Bell commented on scottishrunningguide.com: "Great event! Extremely well organised from start to finish. Hearing the pipes at each marker was a nice touch and there were two watering stations at strategic points en route. A very successful day with almost perfect running conditions thrown in. Will be back next year."
