Peterhead To Host September Festival

9 JUN2011

Peterhead running festival logo

The organisers of last year's Peterhead half marathon are building on the success of that event to create the Peterhead Running Festival and Fun Day in 2011. The festival and fun day will take place on Sunday, September 11 at Catto Park playing fields and running track and will include the half marathon, the Shell 5K race, jog or walk and the Shell School Fun Runs (in partnership with Active Schools).

Organisers hope to attract around 1000 participants to this new running festival for the north east of Scotland. All competitors will be electronically timed by Leisurelend, and receive a specially designed Peterhead Running Festival & Fun Day medal. In addition all children taking part will receive goodie bags provided by sponsors Shell and can get involved in various play activities.

The school with the greatest percentage of pupils per head of school roll taking part on the day will receive a £200 cheque to spend on sports equipment. All parents/guardians must complete and return an entry form to their school by Friday, September 2 to enter the running festival. All pupils entering the Shell School Fun Runs must be accompanied to the event by a responsible adult.

John Raine from Shell said: "Shell and Peterhead Jogscotland with a number of other partners, aim to deliver a safe and exciting running festival that will bring the community together. We hope this event will provide the inspiration, motivation and excitement to get more people active."

Stephen Bruce, chair of Peterhead Jogscotland said: "We are really excited about bringing this new running festival to Aberdeenshire, and we would like to thank Shell for their financial support and enthusiasm in planning this event. All profits from the day will go to Scottish Spina Bifida Association."

If you would like more information, get involved or volunteer at the event contact Stephen Bruce at the Peterhead jogscotland website.
