Fox On The Run

7 JUN2011

poet Kate Fox

Your private straining faces
are on display
to the audience in their
drive by amphitheatres,
your breath is erupting as if you're
a kettle on the boil
and you're wetter than
you'd want to be in public
without a towel.

Lots of writers and journalists try to capture the feelings of being out running, maybe poet Kate Fox does it a little more elegantly than most. Kate is the official poet-in-residence for this year's Great North Run, and has been charting her emotional and physical journey as she has embarked on training for the biggest half marathon in the world on her Great North Run poetry blog.

Kate Fox will be hitting the streets as part of the National Autistic Society's Great North Run team for 2011 and is asking more people to join her. Kate is running for NAS after working closely with the charity in preparation for her new one-woman comedy poetry show, 'A Portrait of the Autist As A Young Woman', which looks at the challenges of growing up with autism.

Kate says: "I'm really enjoying my training for the Great North Run and feel such a buzz when I run a bit further than I have before and gradually feel myself getting stronger. That will be multiplied even more when I manage to run 13 whole miles! It's so satisfying to know that an achievement that is making me feel so good, will be benefiting the NAS and the great work they do too. So why not join me and the rest of the NAS team by donning the NAS shirt in this year's Great North Run!"

Last year 165 runners took part in the Bupa Great North Run! for the NAS and, together, raised more than £70,000 and this year, with your help, are hoping to raise even more!
