Countdown To Mens 10K

6 JUN2011

Tim Street, MHFS chair

A record turnout of around 4,000 participants will take part in Men's Health Forum Scotland 10K, a unique Father's Day event and organisers are urging anyone who wants to get involved and has yet to register, to do so before 23:59 hours on Friday, June 10.

One runner upbeat about his prospects is Bryan Burnet, the frontman for BBC Radio Scotland's hugely popular 'Get It On'. Blogging on the event website running enthusiast Bryan tells of his pre-race boost, a new pair of Brooks Green Silence lightweight shoes.

Bryan reports: "There's lots of talk about racing shoes and lightweight trainers and whether they actually do speed up your race time. I believe that they do - purely because of the physiological benefit of strapping on something that feels light and fast. As stupid as it sounds I almost feel like I can't let the shoes down by running slowly.

"I think the other thing is that when you have done all your long slow runs in the same pair of trainers, wearing a different pair for the race is telling your body to expect something special for the big day."

Bryan is not alone in looking forward to the big race. Sarah McMillan, event organiser says: "We are delighted to see so many guys committing to improving their health and taking part in this year's Men's 10k. The event has been running for six years now and the MHFS 10k for Men 2011 is set to be the biggest and best yet. Registrations are coming in thick and fast and it would a pity to see anyone miss out, so please register before 23:59 on Friday (June 10) to secure your place at the start line."

Tim Street, Chair of MHFS adds: "The MHFS 10k for Men is the focal point of Men's Health Week in Scotland - which runs from June 13 - 19. With all the evidence of poor men's health in Scotland, we feel it is really important to have a big celebratory occasion like this each year which showcases thousands of men who do want to make a difference."

To register your place at the Men's 10k visit the event website. Registrations close June 10, 2011.
