Shettleston Blow Away Invaders
20 MAY2011

On a windy Thursday night the 25th anniversary of the Polaroid Series got off to a flying start with a record turnout for the Helensburgh 10K - over 1,000 entries. The prize money had been increased to encourage a high quality field and a couple of decent 10K runners from England came up to try their hand at the event.
Their efforts were thwarted by a very strong Shettleston Harriers team who went away with the first and second team prizes in the men's event. The race was won by Tewoldeberhan Mengisteab in a new course record 30:30 and he was closely followed by his fellow Eritrean club mate Tesgai Tewelde in 30:50 who was one second ahead of the first of the English challengers Andy Norman from Altrincham & District in 30:51.
The women's race was also won by a Shettleston Harrier Carol Setches in 36:28 closely followed by Jill Knowles in 36:42 and then Joasia Zakrewski in 36:52.
Mid point runner was Chris Johnston in 49:08 and the final runner came home in 1:22:32.
