Festival Foursome For Mark

11 MAY2011

Mark Cooper

Mark Cooper, the man who completed 50 marathons in 56 days last year for charity, is set to run in all four events at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival of Running on Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22. The Edinburgh-based endurance phenomenon is planning to run from Edinburgh to London later this year in the Capital to Capital Challenge, a run that will see Mark attempt a new world record for the most miles covered in 5 days - 560 miles in 120 hours.

Mark has been warming up for the Capital to Capital Challenge by taking part in the Montane Scottish Ultra Marathon series; he put up impressive performances in the first two events in the series before having to pull out of leg 3 - the Montane Highland Fling on April 30.

Subsequent injury worries have interrupted Mark's training however he is hoping that the unique weekend challenge, of completing a 5K, 10k, half marathon and full marathon in not much more than 24 hours, will give him a boost.

Mark will warm-up for his Festival foursome at Holyrood Park this weekend where he will join another ultra runner who is involved in his own amazing fundraising feat. Mark is planning a 30+ mile run with Andy McMenemy.

Challenge66 sees Andy McMenemy, the son of a former soldier try to establish a new Guinness World Record for consecutive ultra marathons (50km) with no rest days. During Challenge66 Andy is running 66 Ultra Marathons in 66 Days, one from each of the 66 official Cities in the United Kingdom. More details on the Challenge66 website.
