New Scottish Marathon Set For September

4 MAY2011

runners feet

Organisers of a new marathon in Scotland are waiting for final agreement with local agencies about the race route before announcing details of the September event. The race which will be staged in Highland Perthshire based around the town of Aberfeldy is expected to attract a maximum of 300 participants in the first year.

Aberfeldy and District Rotary and Aberfeldy Golf club are among a number of local community organisations who are supporting the event. The new marathon also has the backing of two major national charities.

The plan is to create a 13.1 mile route from Aberfeldy to the Taymouth Castle estate and to have one lap for a half marathon event and two laps for the full marathon. Organisers are hoping to arrange a programme of social events around the races including a ceilidh, Highland barbecue, and a trade fair.
