Five Days To Glasgow Womens 10K

3 MAY2011

runners at the Glasgow Womens 10K

Just 5 days to go until one of the biggest Scottish sports days of the year - the Ignis Asset Management Women's 10K and an expected 13,000 entrants are putting the final touches to their big race preparation. The BBC 5-day weather forecast predicts rain in Glasgow towards the end of the week however runners will be hoping for a dry cool day on Sunday.

Women across Scotland have been upping their training in recent weeks and balancing the demands of work and family life to make sure they log the crucial runs that will see them toe the start line on May 8 in the best shape possible.

Glasgow parkrun had a record turnout on April 23, their numbers swelled by Women's 10K hopefuls; larger numbers than usual have been spotted recently on various parts of the 10K course, especially the hill in Pollok Park, and local specialist retailers are reporting increased business ahead of race day.

One hopeful was snatching runs between encouraging reluctant daughters to study for exams, raising funds for Spinal Research and following the Royal Wedding. While another made sure that her training continued despite a business trip to China.

You can still enter the Ignis Asset Management Women's 10K (online until midnight tonight - Tuesday, May 3) but you will have to collect your race pack from the women's 10k race office at Jurys Hotel in Jamaica Street, Glasgow. You can enter at the Race Office on Friday and Saturday, May 6/7 but there is NO entry on May 8. The race office will only be open on Friday, May 6, from 8am until 8pm and on Saturday, May 7, from 9am until 6pm. Remember, you CANNOT enter on the day of the race.

Get involved in the pre-race buzz and find out why Jacyln from Perth, Melody from Hamilton, Ann from Stirling, and Christine from Paisley are running in Britain's biggest all-female 10K at the event website.

Finally scottishrunningguide.com will be offering daily tips for runners up until Sunday and we're kicking off with a double header today. 1 - start thinking seriously about hydration ahead of Sunday - drink two litres of water across the course of the day; 2 - make plans now for having an easy day on Saturday - get ahead with the chores and ask people (your partner, your mum, your sensible daughter?) to help with the things you normally have to do. More tips tomorrow.
