Fling In The Sun

2 MAY2011

Highland Fling logo

Saturday's Montane Highland Fling attracted a big 300 plus field for the 53 mile jaunt along the West Highland Way from Milngave to Tyndrum. Runners battled in warm weather but despite the heat the old race record was broken not only by the old record holder - Jez Bragg (7:19:09 in 2009) but also by the winner of this year's race, Andrew James who set a new course record of 7:12:08.

Kate Jenkins from Hunters Bog Trotters led from the start to finish first woman in 9:04:24 and the Bellahouston Beer Bellies were first relay team in 6:47:51. Matt Williamson (7:46:11) finished in 5th place to pick up valuable points in the Montane Scottish Ultra Marathon Series (the Fling was the third leg in the series).

7 hours and 12 minutes. Not bad . When I tried it last month, I managed it in about 17 hours (over 2 days).
