Countdown For Loch Ness Marathon

20 APR2011

runners at the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon

Runners inspired by the achievements of the magnificent Mutais at London and Boston and looking around for an autumn target have until midnight on Sunday, May 1 to sign up for the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon (general entries close at that time). The event which regularly features in polls of Britain's top races attracts large numbers of visitors to the Highlands for the marathon and the River Ness 10K.

October 2, 2011 sees the 10th anniversary of an event which has grown from a stand alone marathon along the shores of iconic Loch Ness, to a fully-blown Festival with participants having the option of taking part in the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, Baxters River Ness 10K, the Baxters River Ness 5K Fun Run, the team event - the HSBC 10K Corporate Challenge and - for younger pre-school age children - the Wee Nessie, to walk, run or toddle.

With a well deserved reputation for excellent organisation - recently voted 4th best UK marathon by Runners World - and a warm Scottish welcome for everyone, the Festival is a great event for all the family. The tented Festival village around the stunning finish line beside the River Ness in Bught Park in the centre of Inverness, provides a focus for live music with a Highland flavour, together with a Highland Food and Drink Fayre, charity and sports retailer expo and kids activities. There is lots to do for runners and companions of all ages.

Although general entry for the Marathon closes at midnight on Sunday, May 1, places are still available for club, overseas and charity runners until September 12, 2011. Entry for the Baxters River Ness 10K, the HSBC 10K Corporate Challenge and the Baxters River Ness 5K Fun Run is also open until September 12 or until race limit is reached, whichever is sooner.
