This summer sees a new stretch of motorway opening in Glasgow which extends the M74 from Fullarton Road Junction, near Carmyle, to the M8 motorway west of the Kingston Bridge. Prior to the June opening, the Project Partners and the Contractor are allowing a one off opportunity to see the route by cycling, walking and running.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 22 and will start at the west end of the new motorway, at the Shields Road Car Park, Scotland Street and take participants onto the motorway to do an 'out and back' walk, run or cycle. There is an option to go as far as Polmadie Road (4 km round trip) or over the full length to Fullarton Roundabout (14km round trip).
The event is limited to 20,000 participants and will offer an ideal opportunity to raise funds for charities. Event Information packs including event number will be mailed out from Friday, May 6.
The organisers have nominated 8 charities to be the recipients of the entry fees for the event:
- Spinal Injuries Scotland
- The Lighthouse Club
- Macmillan Cancer Support
- British Heart Foundation Scotland
- Royal National Institute of Blind People
- Yorkhill Childrens Foundation
- Scottish Association for Mental Health
- The Hospices of Scotland
More details are available at Glasgow City Council's website.
