Ross At The Double

18 APR2011

Ross Houston (31) completed an unusual double when he won yesterday's Scottish Kilomathon in 1:27:59. The Central AC man had finished fastest in the inaugural event last October and was able to defend his title just 6 months after his first success. Ross said: "I'm really pleased to have won; it was very enjoyable. It was a great event with nice weather although it started to get hot towards the end and running over the Forth Road Bridge was a big bonus."

Ross Milne (33) claimed second place in 1:33:59. Milne also ran the inaugural Kilomathon Scotland last year in 1:33 and said: "It was a good race but a bit of a solo effort and the hill at the end was tough. It is a really good distance, good for marathon training five weeks before the Edinburgh Marathon."

Jennifer Maclean claimed her first Kilomathon victory in the women's event with a time of 1:43:36 ahead of Nicola Duncan (1:44:24). Post-race Nicola said: "Really gorgeous sunshine made a big difference, the course was hilly but lovely, really scenic."

1,000 plus runners took part in the full Kilomathon, the new half Kilomathon and the mini Kilomathon. Paul Quigley (2:28:06) was the mid-point runner in the Kilomathon and the last participant came home in 4:20:10.

GSi Events Race Director Neil Kilgour congratulated all of the participants and paid tribute to the both the runners and local community and fantastic Kilomathon race crew. "There was a great atmosphere at the event today with lots of encouragement from the public for all the runners many of whom were raising money for good causes and charities."
