Total Wipeout Star Signs Up For Urbanathlon

7 APR2011

Total Wipeout winner Roy Davidson in training for the Urbanathlon

Fresh from his victory on TV's Total Wipeout, Roy 'Rob Roy' Davidson is swapping the world's craziest obstacle course challenge for one closer to home, the Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland Urbanathlon. Roy is a keen supporter of the charity and is challenging his fellow Scots to take on one of two Urbanathlon fun runs in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Urbanathlon participants tackle a series of imaginative and entertaining obstacles along a 7k route in an urban environment. Competitors run, slip, slide, dangle, crawl - and laugh - their way through the course which takes in some of the best terrain and inspiring scenery our cities have to offer. The Glasgow Urbanathlon on Sunday, June 12 takes place in Linn Park and participants will register, set off and finish at Holmwood House, a landmark National Trust for Scotland property adjacent to the park.

Event organiser Alison Bertram is delighted that Roy Davidson will be participating: "We're thrilled that Roy is supporting the Glasgow Urbanathlon but remember you don't have to be a record breaker to take part; the event is suitable for all levels of fitness. The route and the obstacles are secret until the day so we can't reveal those details but previous runs have involved buses, tunnels, skips, and an inflatable wall!"

Roy, who holds the record for the fastest time in the international Total Wipeout challenge, told scottishrunningguide.com: "Heart and stroke illness has affected several members of my family and I know the devastating effects they can have first hand. Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland supports people living with these conditions and also funds groundbreaking medical research. For just £40 in sponsorship you and your mates can tackle a totally unique course whilst having the most fun you have had in a long time, and to top it all you'll be raising money for a great cause!"

To register or for more information visit the urbanathlon website. You can also watch last year's fun on YouTube and find the event on Facebook.
