Ben Barwick is looking forward to a visit to Glasgow this weekend following a PB at the adidas Silverstone half marathon on Sunday. The running and biomechanics expert at Full Potential is in training for the Brighton Marathon next month and is pleased with his progress.
Ben told scottishrunningguide.com: "I was really pleased with my run; my training has been progressive and I think that this is the key to running success. I always advise new runners to build up steadily extending the duration and intensity of their runs at a modest rate (never more than 10% extra distance per week). Do it at a gradual rate and you'll avoid injury."
Ben also emphasises the importance of the proper footwear: "Your foot strikes the ground around 80 times per minute, that could mean close to 500 footstrikes for someone running 10k in an hour. That's a lot of impact. If you're not wearing the right shoe there is the potential for things to go wrong.
"I am currently touring the UK with the adidas footscan team and we are offering a gait analysis for runners that includes a free pressure pad foot scan plus the opportunity to trial different shoe models using video analysis on the treadmill. This dual approach plus the expertise from myself and the adidas team means that you will find a shoe that works for you."
Ben Barwick will be at the Sauchiehall Street store of Greaves Sports on Sunday, March 13 for a special adidas foot scan day. This is the second adidas foot scan day for Greaves Sports having had a successful event recently at their Gordon Street branch.
