25 Not Out For Aberdeen 10K

The countdown is on to the north-east of Scotland's signature running event - the City of Aberdeen Baker Hughes 10K. Organisers Sport Aberdeen are hoping for a record 4,000 entrants for the event which takes place on Sunday, May 22.

STV weather presenter Seán Batty recently launched the event which celebrates its 25th birthday this year. As well as the 10K, registration is also now available for the 10K wheelchair race and the Banks O' Dee Family Fun Run. To celebrate the 25th race, this year's fun run - which will give whole families the chance to get involved - is free to enter on the day.

Seán Batty said: "I'm so pleased that I have been asked to be part of the event's 25th celebrations and I am really looking forward to helping out on the day. Events like this are great as it's not just about the 10K road race - of course, there's the Family Fun Run and the 10K Wheelchair Race, which means there is something for everyone.

"At STV, during January we were getting people from all across the country involved in our 'New Year, New You' campaign, encouraging people to change something about themselves for the better. My part of the campaign was 'keep fit' and I have since reacquainted myself with the gym and have been keeping it up - which is always the difficult part!

"The Baker Hughes 10k means that you can set yourself a goal to run in May and keep the 'New Year, New You' going at least till half way through the year and hopefully beyond to the 2011 race!

"Over the last few years some of the best weather has occurred during April and May and I'll be hoping the sun will be shining down on us on May 22, although perhaps a nice cooling onshore breeze would be welcome too!"

Race entries are available online. Participants can raise money for any charity or organisation including the official race charities CLAN, Children 1st, CHAS, Inspire, Erskine, UCAN, Alzheimer Scotland and Sue Ryder. You can also pick up an application form from local sports centres, The Point on Broad Street or The Running Shop on South Mount St.
