Flying In Fife
27 FEB2011
Neil Renault's recent good form continued with a blistering run at yesterday's Cupar 5. The Edinburgh AC man (23:52) and second placed Andrew Douglas (Inverclyde) - 24.07 both lowered Phil Mowbray's 12 year course record. Hester Dix (St Andrew's Univ/Fife AC) was first woman in 28.23. A field of 300, mostly club runners, enjoyed this great 'end of winter' event with Fife AC's NIck Brian the mid-point runner in 35:16.
Meanwhile there was a record turnout on a pleasant Saturday morning at Glasgow parkrun. 374 runners toed the line - surely this event will pass the magic 400 mark in the coming weeks - with Kilmarnock Harrier Andy McGhee fastest man in 17:21 and Chloe Cowan first woman in 19:36.
As ever though the real story of parkrun is participants of all shapes and sizes - fast club runners, speedy teenagers, 60 something first-timers, mums and daughters jogging round together - having a great run in beautiful surroundings.
At Edinburgh parkrun Lasswade AC's Barney Phillips (16:28) was fastest of 230 runners; Dorking & Mole Valley AC's Helen Bridle (19:25) was first woman. Shettleston Harrier Steve Winter (18:19) was first home at Strathclyde parkrun while youngster Pamela Jane McNichol (21:50) was quickest woman in her first parkrun.
