Marathon MP Bang On Schedule

23 FEB2011

Jo Swinson MP

Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson's preparation for April's London Marathon received a boost last weekend when she followed a long run of 20 miles on Saturday with a respectable showing in Sunday's Kirkintilloch Olympians 12.5K road race.

The East Dunbartonshire MP finished 127th out of a strong 222 field made up of mostly club runners in a time of 1:05:03. Her 8 and a bit minute miles after a tough run the previous day augur well for her big London date. Jo has already completed a marathon, having run Loch Ness in 2007 in 4:07:18. Does the ambitious young Coalition MP have her sights set on a sub-4 hour run at the London Marathon?

Jo will be motivated by running in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and she says: "Like me, you may know someone who is affected. Each year in the UK, nearly 30,000 people of all ages are diagnosed with blood cancers. Lymphoma is actually the most common cause of cancer death in the under 40s."
