Devils No Burden For Shettleston

24 JAN2011

Westerland's Niall McAlinden in action at the Devils Burden

Over 400 hill runners descended on the historic Fife town of Falkland on Saturday for the popular Devil's Burden Relay Race. Shettleston Harriers retained their title, four minutes ahead of Bellahouston Road Runners, who edged Ochil Hill Runners for second.

The strong Shettleston pairing of Jethro Lennox and Tom Owens opened up a four and a half minute lead on leg one, and although Bellahouston's Mark Johnston, and then Kenny Richmond/Peter Devenport made inroads on legs 2 and 3, it wasn't enough to trouble Shettleston.

In the women's race, HBT Resplendents lived up to their billing coming home fastest in 2:50:36 ahead of last year's winners Ochil Hill Runners in 2:53:07 this despite Tracey Brindley halving HBT's four minute lead on leg two.

Fife AC's women's vets combination finished in 103rd position overall in a time of 4:40:09.
