The Courage of Liz Burns

13 JAN2011

Liz Burns

Face of the Race Liz Burns has been catapulted into the media world in a big way since she appeared at the launch of the Ignis Asset Management Women's 10k on Tuesday. The 43 year old appeared on STV's The Hour last night and told presenters Stephen Jardine and Michelle McManus that she was looking forward to the event in May despite having been diagnosed with breast and bone cancer in March last year.

Liz told viewers how after a car accident, which left her with a broken neck, doctors gave the devastating news of her serious illness. Stephen Jardine praised Liz's courage and determination as she responded to her new circumstances by keeping active and facing her illness full on.

Liz and Michelle McManus shared memories of last September's Great Scottish Run when Liz, despite still having a neck brace and receiving treatment at the Beatson Hospital, walked the route.

Having been a runner for 20 years and completed 7 marathons as well as countless 10ks and half marathons, Liz was used to crossing the finish lines at big races but the Great Scottish Run was special for her. Now she hopes to walk the Women's 10k in May at a brisker pace with the prospect of a 'trot' in the 2011 Great Scottish Run.
