Turkey Trot Still Cooking

Runners in the west of Scotland will be delighted to know that the popular Ayr Turkey Trot scheduled for Sunday, December 26 is on! Race organiser Alastair Stewart confirmed that the popular festive event is very likely to go ahead despite the current freezing weather.

Alastair told scottishrunningguide.com: "The races, we stage a 5k event as well as the 10k, might take place as planned on tarmac if there is a thaw over the next few days. However that looks unlikely so we will stage the routes using the beach.

"This is what happened last year and the feedback from runners was very positive with many suggesting that we made the beach route the permanent one. This wouldn't be possible every year as the tides are not always favourable. However this year they are in our favour and we will be able to mark out a full 10k route."

The races take place from the Citadel Leisure Centre, South Harbour St. Ayr, KA7 1JB with the 5k starting at 11.15am and the 10k at 12.00 noon. £1 online entry discount applies until midnight December 24. Entries will still be accepted on the day at the full rate. Registration will open at 10.00am.
