Launch For Fifth Meadows Marathon

19 NOV2010

Runners in the meadows marathon

Edinburgh's Meadows Marathon is celebrating its 5th birthday in style with a special launch night on November 25, for the fun-filled race day. The Meadows Marathon includes a half marathon race and 5K fun run in the Meadows park in Edinburgh. The launch night aims to give runners a chance to meet the team behind the event and get to know some of the other runners.

The launch night will be a chance for organisers to showcase some of the changes they are bringing to the 2011 event, which will take place on March 6. There will be charity representatives on hand for runners who wish to participate for a good cause, including Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Cash for Kids.

Rachel Shaw, project leader, speaks about the marathon: "This year, we are really determined to make the Meadows Marathon bigger and better than before. Already, the whole team is putting in the work to guarantee a good event day. What is special about the Marathon is that the whole day has a festival atmosphere, and it offers an opportunity for all runners, regardless of ability, to join in an ever-expanding event".

The Meadows marathon is organised 100% by student volunteers from Edinburgh's higher institutions and have proved extremely successful over the years, with almost 1,000 runners and raising over £50,000 in 2010.

The launch night will mark the opening of entries for next year's race, as well as a week-long reduced entry fee. The Launch night will take place on November 25 at 7.30pm, in the Loft Bar of Teviot Row house, Edinburgh, EH8 9AL. For more information, visit the meadows marathon website, or follow the team on twitter.
